What is Brainspotting?
Brainspotting is a brain-body therapy designed to help individuals process trauma, emotional pain, stress, and deeply stored experiences that may feel difficult to access through traditional talk therapy alone. Developed by David Grand, Brainspotting is based on the understanding that “where you look affects how you feel.”
Brainspotting works by identifying specific eye positions, or “brainspots,” that correlate with unresolved experiences stored in the brain and body. By focusing on these brainspots while staying connected to internal sensations and emotions, clients can begin processing experiences at a deeper neurological and nervous system level.
Many clients find Brainspotting especially helpful when they feel intellectually aware of their struggles but continue feeling emotionally stuck, reactive, overwhelmed, or disconnected.
What does Brainspotting look like in therapy?
Brainspotting sessions are often slower, more attuned, and deeply experiential. During therapy, your therapist helps identify eye positions connected to emotional activation while supporting you in staying present to thoughts, emotions, and body sensations that arise.
Rather than forcing analysis or excessive verbal processing, Brainspotting allows the brain and body to process experiences naturally and organically.
