Loneliness & Social Isolation Therapy in Nashville

Starting Here

Maybe you moved to Nashville and haven't built real community yet. Maybe you're surrounded by people but still feel deeply alone. Loneliness isn't always about how many people are around you.

Therapy can help you understand what's getting in the way of connection and build the relationships you're craving.

This Can Look Like

Loneliness and social isolation can look like:

  • Feeling disconnected even when you're around other people
  • Difficulty building or maintaining friendships as an adult
  • Isolation following a move, breakup, retirement, or major life change
  • Longing for connection but not knowing how to pursue it
  • Withdrawing from others, even when part of you wants closeness
  • A sense that no one really knows what's going on with you

How Therapy Can Help

Therapy is itself a relationship, and can be a starting point for others. We'll help you:

  • Understand what's making connection feel difficult right now
  • Address any patterns of withdrawal, mistrust, or self-protection
  • Build practical steps toward finding community in Nashville
  • Process grief tied to friendships or relationships you've lost
  • Feel less alone, even before your outer circle has grown

Our Approach

We take loneliness seriously as its own concern, not just a symptom of something else. Your therapist will help you understand the specific barriers to connection in your life and build a realistic plan toward more of it.

Therapeutic Approaches We May Use

  • Psychodynamic Therapy — understanding relational patterns that contribute to isolation
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) — exploring parts of you that withdraw or self-protect
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) — taking values-driven steps toward connection
  • Solution-Focused Therapy — practical strategies for building community

Who Might Benefit From Treatment

This kind of therapy may be a good fit if you're:

  • New to Nashville and still building your sense of community
  • Struggling to make or keep friendships as an adult
  • Feeling isolated after a move, breakup, retirement, or loss
  • Surrounded by people but still feeling fundamentally alone
  • Wanting connection but unsure how to start building it

What to Expect in Therapy

Your first session explores what loneliness looks like for you and what's made connection feel difficult, whether that's circumstance, past experiences, or both.

Your therapist will help you build both the internal shifts and practical steps needed to build genuine community over time.

Sessions are available in person at our Midtown Nashville office or online for clients throughout Tennessee.

FAQ

I just moved to Nashville. Can therapy help with that kind of loneliness?

Yes. Adjusting to a new city without an established support system is one of the most common reasons people seek support for loneliness, and therapy can help with both the adjustment and building new connections.

Is this different from Social Anxiety therapy?

Yes. Loneliness often involves a genuine lack of connection or difficulty building relationships, which may or may not include fear of judgment. If fear and avoidance of social situations feels more central, our
