Starting Here
Maybe a specific situation at work—a difficult boss, a career decision, a job that no longer fits—is taking up more mental space than it should. Work stress doesn't stay contained to the office; it shows up at home, too.
This kind of therapy focuses on the specific situations and decisions in your career. If you're feeling depleted across the board rather than dealing with a specific work issue, our
page may fit better.
This Can Look Like
Career and work stress can look like:
- Dreading work because of a specific conflict or dynamic
- Feeling stuck in a job or career path that no longer fits
- Anxiety about a career transition, promotion, or job search
- Difficulty setting boundaries with a demanding boss or workload
- Bringing work stress home in ways that affect your relationships
- Uncertainty about what you actually want from your career
How Therapy Can Help
Therapy gives you space to think clearly about your career, not just cope with it. We'll help you:
- Get clarity on a specific work conflict or decision
- Build strategies for navigating workplace dynamics and boundaries
- Manage anxiety about career transitions or job changes
- Understand what you actually want from your work, separate from expectations
- Keep work stress from spilling into every part of your life
Our Approach
We treat career concerns as legitimate therapeutic territory, not just something to vent about. Your therapist will help you get practical clarity on the situation while also examining any patterns—like difficulty with boundaries or people-pleasing—that may be making it harder.
Therapeutic Approaches We May Use
- Solution-Focused Therapy — practical clarity on career decisions and next steps
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) — aligning career choices with your actual values
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) — managing anxiety tied to specific work situations
- Psychodynamic Therapy — understanding patterns that show up at work
Who Might Benefit From Treatment
This kind of therapy may be a good fit if you're:
- Navigating a specific workplace conflict or difficult boss
- Considering a career change, promotion, or job search
- New to a Nashville employer and adjusting to a new work culture
- Struggling with boundaries or burnout tied to a specific job
- Uncertain about your career direction and want clarity
What to Expect in Therapy
Your first session focuses on the specific work situation or decision you're facing, and what's made it feel so heavy.
Your therapist will help you build a plan that addresses both the practical decision and any deeper patterns getting in the way.
Sessions are available in person at our Midtown Nashville office or online for clients throughout Tennessee.
FAQ
Is this different from Burnout or Stress Management therapy?
This page focuses on specific career situations and decisions, like a difficult boss or a career change. If you're feeling depleted overall, our
page may fit better, and our
page focuses on general coping tools across life domains.
Can therapy help me decide whether to leave my job?
Yes. Therapy can help you get clarity on what's driving the decision, separate fear from genuine signal, and think through next steps, without telling you what to do.
Do you accept insurance?
Nashville Counseling Associates is out-of-network with insurance providers, so we don't bill insurance directly. Many clients use out-of-network benefits to get reimbursed, and we're happy to provide a superbill (an itemized receipt) for you to submit.
Session fees generally range from $130–$185 depending on the clinician, with $85 sessions available with our graduate-level interns and sliding-scale options based on financial need.
